General Summary

Qualcomm’s XR team is seeking a Security & Privacy Lead to join a talented and innovative team developing the next generation of Augmented and Virtual reality (XR) technologies. As we develop the next generation of XR technologies, we are putting privacy and security in the front and center of our architecture and design philosophy. The Security and Privacy Lead will establish the guiding principles, design patterns, and validation schemes that uphold the security and privacy commitment of Qualcomm’s developer-facing XR SDK product(s). You will work closely with the XR SDK architects to establish and enforce the design patterns and best practices for security and privacy, lead the design effort for such services, and continue to provide engineering leadership through deployment and commercialization.

You will work with product managers and program managers to incorporate security and privacy requirements into product requirements, and successfully drive design and implementation reviews to ensure that security and privacy are core components of the product. You will continuously assess privacy and security risks in current and upcoming XR products via well-defined privacy metrics. When privacy risks are found, you will lead immediate mitigation as well as longer term strategic solutions. Communications skills are key to success in this role, you must possess verbal and written skills that convey complex information to audiences with differing knowledge levels including high level internal constituents and have the ability to develop strong rapport and credibility to resolve conflicts and promote ideas persuasively and collaboratively. You must be prepared to make decisions with imperfect information, know how to lead without authority and be comfortable managing in ambiguity, and complexity.

Idea Candidates Will Demonstrate The Following
  • 10+ years Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • 5+ years’ industry experience in privacy and security design, implementation and deployment.
  • Proven experience with privacy preservation in large scale architectures and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of current user data protection, privacy and security best practices and regulations.
  • Experience in collaborating with engineering, product management, and Legal stakeholders.
  • Feel a personal stake in protecting privacy of XR users.

Develops, creates, and modifies general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. Analyzes user needs and develops software solutions. Designs software or customizes software for client use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency. May analyze and design databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team. Modifies existing software to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance. Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces. Stores, retrieves, and manipulates data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements. Designs, develops, and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.

The Responsibilities Of This Role Include

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Gathers, integrates, and interprets information across sub-systems from a variety of sources in order to troubleshoot issues and find solutions.
  • Serves as a technical expert within area of focus.
  • Identifies gaps in design, effort, etc., and closes the gaps.
  • Identifies risks associated with designs, approaches, and other work efforts.
  • Collaborates with others inside and outside of project team to accomplish project objectives.
  • Solves complex technical problems that affect significant areas of product.
  • Makes decisions based on incomplete, contradictory, and ambiguous requirements and information that affect policies and multiple teams in the software development process.
  • Manages project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables for larger projects.
  • Acts as a tech lead on projects and owns the outcome of the project.
  • Leads others with technical credibility.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.
  • Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.
  • Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
  • Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
  • Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors - Computer Science, Bachelors - Engineering, Bachelors - Information Systems

Work Experiences

3+ years experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. ,7+ years Software Engineering or related work experience.
