Facebook is seeking a Research Scientist to join Facebook AI Research (FAIR), a research organization focused on making significant progress in AI. Individuals in this role are expected to be recognized experts in identified research areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational statistics, and applied mathematics, particularly including areas such as deep learning, graphical models, reinforcement learning, computer perception, natural language processing and data representation. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in producing new science to understand intelligence and technology to make computers more intelligent. This is a new large-scale research effort aimed at coalescing multiple teams to make dramatic improvements in the state-of-the-art for AI for Augmented Reality, and Embodied AI. The chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, interaction designers, product managers as their cross-functional partner, and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and research facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design architectures for semantic video understanding.
  • Develop methods for training models from multimodal data (video, speech, audio).
  • Create algorithms achieving state-of-the-art performance on established benchmarks for object and activity detection, segmentation and tracking.
  • Publish research innovations in top computer vision and machine learning conferences.
Minimum Qualification
  • Currently has or in the process of obtaining a PhD in computer science or related field.
  • Experience establishing publication record in the field of video understanding.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualification
  • Research experience in one or more of these topics: object detection in video, action classification/detection, temporal segmentation, anticipation/forecasting, human pose estimation, multimodal learning (joint modeling of video + text/audio).
  • Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via an internship, work experience, coding competitions.
  • First-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, ICML, NeurIPS, or similar).
