Electrical Engineer - Analog

Employer

Job Description

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a broad set of experiences, including analog/mixed signal design, PCB design, RF design, or multimodal biometric sensing. The systems we work with could have ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, simple to complex FPGAs, displays, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, camera sensors, and high speed I/O. The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing mixed signal digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be comfortable with analog design. They should have the ability to work in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Designing, simulating, prototyping, and testing of electrical systems in experiments which combine a disparate compliment of biometric sensors, mechanics, optics and software
  • Collaborating in a team environment across engineering disciplines
  • Designing schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into electro-mechanical systems using industry-standard design packages such as Altium or Cadence and lab equipment
  • Transforming ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions
  • Incubating new technologies into research prototypes
Minimum Qualification
  • 5+ years of industry or applied academic experience with a BS/MS in Digital System Design/Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with circuit simulation, schematic layout, and board design using Cadence OrCAD, Altium, SPICE or equivalent tools
  • Experience with mixed domain circuit design, filter design, operation/instrumentation amplifiers, ADC/DACs, power supply design, Microcontroller, or Microprocessor based development
  • Working familiarity with one or more biometric sensing technologies such as ultrasound, electrophysiological monitoring, electroencephalogram (EEG), Electromyography (EMG), Electrocardiogram (ECG), barometric sensors, pulse oximetry, inertial measurement devices, odometry, or vision systems
  • Demonstrated use of oscilloscopes, LCR meters, spectrum and logic analyzers, and function generators
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience with one or more of the following: design of high speed differential circuits, Verilog/FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, firmware, or programmable logic based development
  • Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies with challenging design constraints
  • Experience working independently and managing priorities
  • Strong aptitude for creative problem solving
  • Experience programming in languages such as Python/C/C++
