The Facebook AR/VR group brings together world-class experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content. We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. As a part of that mission, we are pioneering the future of social virtual reality applications, and we need a leader in tech art.The Technical Art Manager will build, manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of tech art leads and tech artists who are chartered with building art pipelines and the technical execution of art assets that help define the future of VR. You will be in the forefront of creating a new visual language for virtual spaces and apply it consistently through multiple 3D and 2D platforms. Join a cross functional team of Software Engineers, Product Managers and Designers who are passionate about creating a cutting-edge VR experience and establishing the Social Experiences Team as an industry leader.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and motivate a creative team and recruit new contributors
  • Engage with PMs, Designers, Engineers and Art Leads to define tech art scope and pipelines
  • Support artists in building tools for more efficient workflow
  • Optimize performance by instructing artists on asset creation best practices, building reporting tools that flag performance hotspots, and working closely with art and engineering to fix performance problems
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during testing phases
  • Manage the VFX artists
  • Conceptualize, present and execute ideas within time and technical constraints
  • Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving in a fast-paced environment
Minimum Qualification
  • Experience of art team management experience in game development
  • Experience with production toolsets and knowledge of 3D Art Tools (e.g. Shotgun, Jira, Trello, Pshop, Maya, Modo, or other)
  • Experience with 3D asset content creation including modeling, texturing, materials, VFX and lighting, for both mobile and high-end specs
  • Communication and leadership skills to foster a team in unfamiliar territory and nebulous requirements
  • Technical art and problem-solving skills – understand the underlying technology and tools necessary to make art for virtual reality
  • Knowledge of Unity and/or Unreal across their features and systems
  • Experience with game optimization techniques
Preferred Qualification
  • 5+ years of experience in game development, film, or interactive media
  • Content development experience, including shipping one or more titles
  • Experience with Python, C#, or C++ in a 3D application or game engine
  • Shader programming experience
  • Experience working with Virtual Reality
  • Experience with how CDNs (Content Delivery Network) work
