Summary
Interactive Media Group (IMG) provides the media and graphics foundation across all of Apple's innovative products, including iPhone, AppleTV, Apple Watch, iPad, iPod, AirPods, Macs as well as professional and consumer applications from Final Cut to iWork. IMG takes the media experience to the next level on the iOS, tvOS, watchOS, macOS and Windows platforms with technologies such as AVFoundation, CoreMedia, CoreAudio, CoreAnimation and Metal.
Our team is responsible for implementing software services around linear audiovisual media. This includes local media playback, video-on-demand and live streaming of multimedia content. Our media engine is used across Apple products such as Safari, Photos, Music, TV, iMovie on iOS and macOS as well as 3rd party applications.
The CoreMedia engineering team within IMG is looking for a software engineer with a strong technical and programming background to join our team to work on implementing and performance tuning support for our media playback pipelines to power the next generation of interactive experiences for our platforms using Apple's latest technologies including RealityKit and ARKit. Experience in performance optimization for media processing on advanced multithreaded, multicore systems.
Key Qualifications
Strong coding skills in C with ARM on embedded platforms
5+ years experience working in a large software development organization
Experience with and understanding of real-time multithreaded programming systems
Knowledge of memory and computer performance analysis and characterization
Experience with performance optimizations for speed, memory and power
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Description
You will be a proactive and team-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment. You will have experience in systems-level programming with an understanding of media components. And you will meet the challenge of improving the performance and software quality of our cross-platform media framework and and solve incredibly challenging and interesting problems in the AR/VR space. To be successful in this role, you will be collaborating with cross-functional teams in an effort to realize higher levels of performance across the overall system.
Education & Experience
M.S. in CS/CE/EE or equivalent domain experience with a strong focus in software engineering
Additional Requirements
Desired but not required:
Experience developing AR/VR and 360 video
Experience with Xcode, Instruments and the macOS development toolchain
Experience with iOS and macOS framework performance optimization
Experience with Performance Toolkit, Performance Counter tools, VTune, XPerf/GPUView, valgrind or similar tools
Experience with assembler optimization
Ability to design for memory/computation efficiency and debug related issues
