The Learning Experiencer Designer is responsible for the design and development of innovative learning solutions and overall learning curriculum. They collaborate with the Development Solutions Managers and other leaders within the Talent Development and Engagement team to plan, conceptualize, design, develop (author) and create highly interactive learning solutions that improve partner and business performance.

This individual is also accountable for the delivery of learning experiences. This requires the ability to administer Petco’s learning management system (LMS), and the expertise to introduce other learning technologies to deliver impactful learning solutions.

Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Designs, develops and delivers/implements innovative and creative learning solutions (web-based training, AR/VR, machine learning, technical training videos, job aids, guides, etc.) utilizing a variety of methods and authoring tools (must be proficient in advanced Articulate Storyline and Articulate Rise. Experience using Captivate and Adobe Suite tools - Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and iMovie or video editing software is helpful.) Proposes, designs, develops and implements a wide variety of performance solutions that range from industry standard to creative, new approaches. Works with the Development Solution Manager or other HR Leader, subject matter experts (SMEs) and source materials to design and develop learning solutions, applying our design and development standard, including leveraging best practices in UX and responsive design. Manages external design/development vendors to develop learning experiences on time and on budget. Employs agile, iterative development methodologies. Flexes with business strategy changes and acts as a key contributor in a complex environment. Identify new tools and emerging technology that will improve our efficiency in developing learning experiences and improve our existing processes for the creation and delivery of learning.

Use the tools and functions within our learning management system (LMS) to configure learning activities and deliver to the proper audience; understand and apply security roles, notifications, collaboration centers, workshop scheduling, uploading and updating of content.

Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple projects and tasks within established timeframes.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

Solicit and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve learning curriculum. Work with outside vendors to develop learning solutions and administer our LMS.

Partner with the Development Solutions Manager to ensure all learning materials are consistent, accurate, and align with business goals and initiatives.

Nature of Supervision

Functional guidance is provided on some, but not all tasks to be completed. Deliverables are examined during development, upon completion and prior to implementation. In addition, standard projects may be completed without regular supervisory direction or guidance.

Planning and Problem Solving

Incumbent will be working on multiple projects ranging from design/development to execution strategies. This individual will demonstrate strong capabilities in managing their time, overall design/development timeline, and managing external vendor relationships. Project scope ranges from designing learning experiences, planning learning implementations (in partnership with the business), and implementing new technologies and learning approaches.

This individual will need to demonstrate strong problem solving skills related to project design and implementation, technology challenges, and managing external vendor partnerships.

Impact

This individual is accountable for aligning our learning deliverables to the future-state business needs and technology capabilities. As Petco implements new store technologies and adds new capabilities for store partners and guests, there needs to be forward-thinking on how to leverage technology when designing learning experiences. This role also will ensure we are thoughtfully implementing new technologies and processes while designing and executing learning that give partners the awareness and knowledge they need in a way that is most effective and efficient, resulting in more time spent on the sales floor with guests.

Supervisory Responsibility

May be a lead on development of learning projects, but has no direct subordinates.

Education And Experience

Experience developing eLearning (web-based training modules), technical training videos (script writing, production and video editing), documentation, presentations and other training materials maintained in a Learning Management System (LMS). Advanced skills and experience with Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Camtasia, Adobe eLearning Suite, Captivate, Dreamweaver, AR/VR, Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, WebEx/Zoom and other learning authoring tools is required.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Learning, Communication, or related field required. Master’s degree in Performance Improvement, Education Technology, Instructional Design, Education, Interactive Media or Learning Systems preferred.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are performed while seated indoors with little or no exposure to hazards. The Instructional Designer may be required to travel by plane/auto as necessary to train and consult with personnel and observe field trainers.
