Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL-R) brings together a world-class team of diverse and highly interdisciplinary researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality. Our team is building the research development kit that will power the AR/VR experiments of the future.In this role, you’ll foster our scientific explorations and generate viable paths to the consumer products that will connect people in meaningful ways for decades to come. You’ll work closely with hardware engineers and research teams to ensure the research development kit and related SDK turbocharges prototyping and experimentation.Our team is comfortable with ambiguity, nurtures a sense of ownership, and enjoys an honest and considerate environment. Responsibilities
  • Analyze, evaluate, design, develop, integrate, debug, and test a realtime AR and VR hardware (RDK) and software development kit (SDK) built for cutting-edge research prototypes and user experiences
  • Collaborate in a diverse team environment with hardware, software, and firmware engineers to support low-level systems such as displays, optics, audio, and tracking. Help make informed architectural tradeoffs and rapidly deliver software solutions
  • Create rock-solid APIs and plug-and-play modules that allow developers and research scientists to easily access, intercept, and modify HMD sensor streams such as IMUs, cameras, and microphones
  • Create clean readable code, debug complex problems that span systems, understand priorities and fulfill project needs efficiently
  • Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving
Minimum Qualification
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years C/C++ experience, including C++11 (and up) features and principles
  • 3+ years experience creating software for games, realtime systems, or similar high performance environments
  • 3+ years experience creating and extending real-time 3D engine systems such as graphics rendering, audio, physics, networking or animation
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience with low-level graphics frameworks such as Vulkan, DirectX, or OpenGL
  • Experience with game engines such as Unreal or Unity
  • Experience with image processing
  • Experience with camera and sensor technologies
  • Experience with computer-vision algorithms such as realtime image segmentation, 3D reconstruction, multiview geometry, object detection or object tracking
  • Experience with 3D mathematics and applied linear algebra
  • Experience with optimization, including the use of one or more SIMD instruction sets to improve performance
