The Facebook Reality Labs Research Audio Team is looking for a Transducer Design Engineer to help bring cutting edge virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences and hardware to life through collaboration and commitment. In our Research & Advanced Development projects, we are setting out to fundamentally transform how people interact with sound, bringing these experiences to the daily lives of billions of people. To make this possible, we need a well-rounded team that nurtures kinship, fosters good communication, and is sympathetic to the challenges in these diverse domains.In this role, you will be cooperating with other engineers and researchers to concept, design, build, and test prototype audio hardware. You will be collaborating and contributing at a deeply technical level and guiding efforts of team members, external vendors, and manufacturing partners. You will design custom transducers and acoustic modules that will integrate into prototype systems. You will optimize designs for best acoustics with regards to the size, weight, and power performance needed for the future of AR/VR wearable devices.We are looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, exhibits a sense of ownership, and enjoys an honest and considerate environment. Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and mature novel piezoelectric and dynamic transducers
- Evaluate, develop, and design-in new materials, technologies, and techniques
- Present concise and coherent observations, conclusions, and recommendations of high fidelity virtual simulations and experimental measurements to establish cross-functional and leadership buy-in
- Create Multiphysics simulations of transducers in device form factor and sub-components optimization (suspensions and motors systems) using fast moving lumped-parameter tools (Microcap, PSpice, MATLAB, etc.) in tandem with advanced continuous-parameter FEA/BEA-tools (COMSOL, ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.)
- Experimentally benchmark, characterize and verify transducer and speaker performance using industry standard tools (SoundCheck, Audio Precision, Klippel R&D, SCN and NFS, Keyence/Polytec Scanning lasers, acoustic cameras, etc.)
Minimum Qualification
- BS degree in EE, ME, Physics, Acoustics or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience working with micro-speaker, full-range, mid-range, woofer or tweeter transducers
- 3+ years of experience working cross-functionally on consumer hardware products with an understanding of assembly techniques, audio materials and transducer design methods
- Experience in failure analysis (both hands-on and analyzing data)
- Data visualization and presentation skills
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualification
- MS or Ph.D. degree in EE, ME, Physics, Acoustics or equivalent work experience
- Audio architectural design experience
- Avid user of COMSOLs Acoustic, AC/DC and Structural modules
