We are seeking a Director of Display Design for the Display & Optics team. This person will be the tech lead for the development of a display solution for a new product family in our evolving AR and VR product portfolio – leading a team of display and optical engineers. The successful candidate will drive display architectural and system decisions with internal technology teams, external collaboration partners and potential suppliers. In particular, the successful candidate will be the Display & Optics team’s primary interface with critical cross functional teams (product management and product design teams). The person in this role will have a deep technical background on AR/VR display concepts, be a strong project manager, synthesizer and problem solver, with the ability to shift seamlessly between technical (research & development), product design, project management and execution tasks. You will appreciate efficiency, collaborative working relationships and know how to prioritize with ease and respond to challenges with grace and timeliness. You will build strong relationships with cross functional partners and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Work with the leadership team & Product Management team to drive the correct display technology strategy (both research and development) and the right display technology roadmaps (optimal balance between internal and external focus) across all the technology block for a new AR/VR product family.
- Own the display roadmap for the proposed product and future generations of this product and support the team in establishing Product Requirement Documents, key performance indicators, program schedules and cost targets.
- Work with the sourcing and business development teams to build the partnerships and ecosystem to deliver the required display solution a new AR/VR product family.
- Ensure progress on priority workstreams, advise on the right strategy, deliverables, timing, etc.
- Ensure the successful launch of the proposed product by collaborating with quality, technical operations and other internal and external teams to achieve our display launch goals.
- Operate as the team’s touchpoint for cross-functional partners for the proposed product.
- Manage of team of display and optical experts.
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in relevant technology.
- 15+ years of work experience in technology innovation, product design and product ramp-up (VR & AR display, optics).
- 7+ years of leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors.
- 7+ years of experience working collaboratively with product teams.
- Experience in technology and product development collaboration with external partners and/or suppliers.
- Experience developing interpersonal relationships with cross-functional partners.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects.
- Experience operating independently and delivering results in an organized manner.
- Experience shifting priorities quickly and acting proactively.
Preferred Qualification
- Advanced technical and/or management degree.
- Experienced org and people manager.
- Experience working with people at all levels, including executive level.
- Experience with building presentations and compiling briefing materials.
- Demonstrated experience in working with Product Management and Engineering to define and launch consumer-electronics products, and experience in developing and leading high-performing teams that manage New Product Introduction (NPI)/bring products to market.
- Broad experience in consumer product centric factory operations, quality, hardware & electrical engineering, product safety and compliance, logistics, trade compliance.
