Facebook seeks a Policy Communications Manager to join the Policy Communications team and support a wide range of initiatives and programs for Facebook Reality Labs (FRL). This role will provide proactive and reactive communications support for FRL privacy and responsible innovation initiatives, develop thought leadership opportunities for FRL Privacy and Policy leaders, and partner with the Policy team to expand relationships with third-party stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong media relations skills, experience working at the intersection of technology and social issues and is calm and level-headed under pressure. Candidates should be passionate about Facebook’s AR/VR products, have a strong understanding of the U.S. and global privacy landscape as well as a good understanding of technology issues, trends in AR/VR development, and policy developments.

Responsibilities
  • Build and execute proactive communications programs that advance Facebook Reality Labs’ priorities around building responsibly and with privacy at the center.
  • Develop and pitch stories, op-eds, and partnership announcements to a range of press, including technical, business, policy, and consumer reporters.
  • Directly manage communications for major FRL policy initiatives, efforts to build third-party stakeholder support and engagement, and other announcements.
  • Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of time-sensitive issues with high stakes and visibility.
  • Prepare messaging and other external and internal materials such as blog posts, op-eds, thought leadership articles, speeches, videos, and other resources.
  • Land proactive stories on overarching FRL responsible innovation priorities.
  • Lead Facebook’s involvement in XR Association’s communications committee.
  • Work with our global Communications, Product, Policy, Privacy, and Legal teams, along with others around the company, to build, understand, and communicate our most compelling narratives about FRL privacy and responsible innovation.
Minimum Qualification
  • 8+ years of Communications experience
  • Knowledge of the AR/VR industry and press
  • Experience building outreach programs and managing stakeholder relations at a national or international level
  • Experience in public policy, public affairs, crisis communications or issues management
  • Experience working under pressure with deadlines and on complex, sensitive issues
  • Experience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, and Research
Preferred Qualification
  • Media relationships with a diverse range of reporters and bloggers
  • Experience working with think tanks, policy advocacy organizations, or technology trade groups
  • Experience managing diverse cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
  • Experience setting priorities and delivering on them in a timely manner
  • Experience distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language
