FRL Research is dedicated to the research and development required to bring virtual and augmented reality to billions of people around the world. We are focused on making interpersonal, social experience in virtual reality and augmented reality, perceptually indistinguishable from real life, in-person interactions. You are a Software Engineering Manager with experience leading and mentoring software teams that are heavily interconnected with hardware in creating systems from a multitude of sensing components, including image sensors, microphones, inertial measurement units, etc. You understand contemporary software design and engineering practices and thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. You have the ability to be a Product Owner for a cross-discipline team responsible for software, firmware, and hardware that is used across the research lab to construct custom capture systems from VR headsets to full-room capture suites. At FRL Research, you will join a world-class team exploring optics, haptics, tracking, displays, computer vision, user experience, audio, and perceptual psychology. Every day, you will work alongside expert Research Scientists, Software Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Electrical Engineers to create the technology that will make VR and AR pervasive and universal. Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a team of software engineers providing performance management and mentorship
- Collaborate with key partners across the research lab including Research Scientists, Software Engineers, and Hardware Engineers
- Create a vision for your team to meet the needs of the lab
- Lead your team to the most important outcomes for Core Systems
- Help your team create technical designs that work to meet different partner needs
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor of Science (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or a related field
- 2+ years of experience managing people
- 2+ years of leading teams in delivery of software solutions
- 5+ years of experience writing and shipping software
- Experience with C++ and/or Python
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with Robotics or Computer Vision
- Experience deploying software on large-scale distributed systems
