Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world.We are currently seeking an Optical Scientist with a background in Liquid Crystal Technologies and Polarization. The role requires a good mix of research in Liquid Crystal based optical technology and internal and vendor based development work.

Responsibilities
  • Lead research, design, prototype, testing, and productization of electro-optical devices involving liquid crystal materials and devices.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary cross-functional teams such as Optics, Displays, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Software.
  • Generate design requirements and specifications for optical devices under R&D constraints.
  • Simulate and analyze optical performance of optical systems and corresponding sub-systems.
  • Coordinate with internal and external collaborators to build and test prototypes.
  • Troubleshoot and root cause using theoretical, simulation, and experimental approaches.
  • Participate in technology productization and product development process.
  • Prepare technology analysis and summary for cross functional reviews.
Minimum Qualification
  • PhD degree in Optical Science, Physics or a related technical discipline.
  • Fundamental knowledge in liquid crystal technology, polarization, and diffractive optics.
  • Build academic and industry relationships to support research initiatives.
  • 3+ years of experience in geometric optics, imaging optics, image quality metrics, and optical testing.
  • 3+ years of experience with optical modeling software tools: Polaris-M, Zemax, CodeV, LightTools.
  • Experience with or understanding of fabrication processes of liquid crystal cells and thin films.
  • Experience with laboratory experiments by designing, planning, and conducting optical experiments.
  • Communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience with AR/VR applications and products.
  • Experience with designing, building, and testing hardware prototypes.
  • Experience with collaboration with industrial vendors in hardware development.
  • Experience in display technologies.
  • Experience with the fabrication process of optical elements, diffractive optical elements.
  • Experience with optical metrology and testing metrics, instruments, and methods.
  • Experience with development of optical systems, preferably in consumer products.
