Responsibilities

Facebook Reality Labs brings together a unique R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers to build the future of connection within virtual and augmented reality. We're developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets. We are currently seeking an innovative postdoctoral researcher to perform research in the area of Computational Imaging with a specific emphasis in Polarized Light; specifically in the topics related to creating polarization imaging capture systems, computational methods in polarization imaging, polarization scattering and other topics. The goal of this role is to help research methods in using polarization to solve advanced computational imaging problems. Key to this is to understand the nature of how polarization light scatters in real materials and what information about materials is contained in this scattered light. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of polarized light and a comprehensive understanding of computational optics. Specific responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Development of polarization capture systems and image processing.
  • Develop algorithms to extract information based on state-of-the-art computational optics or computer vision techniques.
Minimum Qualification
  • Currently has or in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Optical Sciences, Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Background in computational methods in optics (computational imaging and relevant optimization methods, image sensor principles and image processing, scientific programming in on of the following - Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar).
  • Background in theoretical and experimental physical optics concepts (polarized light, coherence, scattering, image formation models, and classical modeling of optical properties of material).
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualification
  • Background in both Mueller and Jones Calculus for analysis of polarized light.
  • Basic understanding of using optical design programs such as Zemax, Code-V, Fred, or others.
  • Knowledge around the building of complex optical systems including mechanical, control, programming, etc.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques and the ability to use tools such as Pytorch.
