The battery team at Facebook Reality Labs develops batteries and battery technologies to power the various AR/VR and wearable products that enable Facebook’s mission of connecting people. As the Battery Product Design Manager, you will lead the team that develops batteries for the various products in the AR/VR/Wearable ecosystem. This role will focus on providing technical guidance, developing and mentoring the team, and managing priorities and resources across a portfolio of projects. We are looking for a leader who works well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, drives new technology areas, and is able to shepherd a challenging concept into a consumer product. This role will afford the opportunity to lead the development of battery technologies that have the potential to change the way humans communicate and interact regardless of distance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for Li-ion cell and battery pack development in a cross-functional team environment
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and GD&T
  • Champion engineering rigor in phase gate development and support rigorous failure analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with key partners (Safety, Reliability, Operations, Sourcing, Legal, Facilities) to support new and ongoing projects
  • Develop roadmaps for improving battery energy density, form factors and manufacturing technologies
  • Identify key roles required for the team’s success and recruit top engineering talent
  • Create career development plans and manage performance
  • Effectively influence leaders and key partners to gain alignment
Minimum Qualification
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience of Li-ion cell and battery pack development
  • 5+ years people management experience
  • Experience designing in CAD
  • Experience in various manufacturing techniques (Machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)
  • Experience designing mechanical constraints of PCBs, FPCs, etc.
  • Experience with battery protection modules and knowledge of safety standards such IEEE1725 and UL2054
  • Experience managing a team of mechanical engineers to deliver cells, battery packs, PCBs & FPCs and integrating them into a final system
Preferred Qualification
  • MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in battery management
  • Experience in NX CAD modeling system, and Team Center PDM
  • Experience in consumer electronics development
