Facebook Reality Labs is dedicated to the research and development required to bring virtual and augmented reality to billions of people around the world. At the lab, we aspire to a vision of social VR and AR, where people are able to interact with each other across distances in a way that is indistinguishable from in-person interactions. We are looking for an exceptional researcher with a proven track record of working at the intersection of Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Graphics as well as an outstanding software engineer who can prototype invented algorithms. As a Research Scientist at FRL, you will pursue research, and work with other Researchers and Engineers to solve challenges at the forefront of the field to transform virtual reality from dream to reality. We're looking for a creative researcher to usher in the next era of human-computer interaction by solving open and exciting computer vision problems.
Responsibilities
- Leading a team of experts and setting the research agenda
- Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance the state-of-the-art in view synthesis and relighting
- Research, develop and prototype advanced view synthesis and relighting approaches
- Participate in cutting edge research in computer vision, graphics and machine learning
- Develop efficient deep neural network models for view synthesis and relighting
- Contributing research that can be applied to Oculus product development
- Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences
Minimum Qualification
- PhD in the field of computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning or a related field with a proven academic track-record
- Experience leading a research group or team in academia or industry
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
- Broad understanding of the full machine vision pipeline from sensors to high-level algorithms
- Experience with view synthesis, VR video, and neural rendering
Preferred Qualification
- Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading conferences (e.g., NIPS, ICLR, ICML, SIGGRAPH, CVPR, ECCV and ICCV) or journals (e.g., PAMI, IJCV, JMLR, ToG)
- 7+ years C++ experience and experience with OpenGL or CUDA programming
- 5+ years experience with deep learning tools (e.g. PyTorch, NumPy)
- Mathematical background and understanding of numerical optimization, linear algebra, probabilistic estimation and 3D geometry
- Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
