FRL brings together world-class experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content. We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. In particular, seemingly impossible products that define new categories that advance Facebook's mission of connecting the world. The FRL Technology Engineering Team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs in core technology and delivering them to market at scale. The Technology Engineering Camera Team seeks a Photographic Imaging Scientist who has extended experience in leading imaging technology & algorithm development and evaluation in consumer electronics.Position within FRL Photographic Imaging Team is for new technology exploration (NTE) for development of novel camera hardware solutions for AR/VR, mobile/wearable, and other consumer devices.
Responsibilities
- Investigate solution space for novel or next-gen camera HW and imaging technologies for consumer products in FRL such as Under Display Capture, Multi-Camera Fusion, or other novel technologies at the intersection of multiple imaging components
- Lead/direct specific focused technical investigation(s) for novel or state-of-the-art camera hardware solutions that intersect camera sensing, optics, display, and other technologies as part of product development process: coordinate with cross-functional teams to land novel camera HW technologies in targeted products
- Ability to organize, arrange, and perform primary investigation or research tasks (experiments, coding, HW integration, rapid prototyping, modeling/simulation) to validate or develop new camera HW technologies
Minimum Qualification
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Knowledge of image formation process (physics, PSF, sensor noise), mathematical fundamentals, and pipeline relevant to consumer devices photographic imaging function.
- Experience or knowledge in development of novel camera HW technology investigation/productization for consumer or AR/VR devices.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with hands-on rapid prototyping. Strong coding experience in MATLAB, Python, C++ to enable deep analysis and investigation.
- Familiarity with latest mobile and wearable technologies methods and trends for camera HW/SW (machine learning, computational photography, etc.).
- Knowledge or research or investigational work in camera HW innovations such as Under Display Camera, Multi-Camera Fusion, and other HW camera technologies.
- Experience in identifying technology gaps for product and developing innovation roadmaps with cross-functional collaborators.
- Experience working or interfacing with imaging simulation tools (ISET, ZEMAX, FRED, etc.) to enable camera hardware investigations, visualization, and feasibility analysis.
