Job Summary:
MicroVision has an immediate opportunity for a senior level Optical Engineer. As a key member of the MicroVision Optics team, you will work directly with MicroVision Optical and Systems engineers as well as with the MicroVision Electrical and Mechanical engineering teams. This position is at our Redmond, WA facility. You will be responsible for optical modelling, optical testing, and system analysis for automotive lidar products.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and analyze micro-optical models in Zemax for product development and concept studies.
- Develop and validate optical performance models in Matlab and Simulink
- Design and develop optics for lidar products from conceptual design through manufacturing release (beam shaping, wavelength or polarization combining, distortion correction).
- Design and execute testing of optical components, diode lasers, optical sub-systems and complete products. Report results to engineering team and management.
Required Skills:
- Experience supporting optical products from the concept stage through to final release
- Demonstrated experience using Zemax, Code V or related design system for geometric optics (sequential and nonsequential), physical optics, optimization, tolerancing and sensitivity analysis.
- Experience with equipment methods for aligning complex optical systems.
- Experience designing lenses, free form optics and beam shaping optics for laser systems.
- Experience with equipment and instrumentation to measure optical power, beam characteristics, polarization, beam alignment, etc.
- Hands on experience with laser diodes, lenses, prisms, and other optical components to build and test prototypes and components
- Knowledge of Python and Matlab
- Experience with basic statistics, writing and executing detailed test plans, and preparing technical reports
- Solid communication and problem-solving skills, ability to understand complex systems and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
Required Experience & Education:
- 7+ years optical engineering experience in new product design and development.
- BS in Optical Engineering or related field.
Additional Preferred Experience:
- Experience with MEMS (scanning, accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc.).
- Experience with 3D sensing applications, time of flight, etc.
- MS or PhD in optical engineering or related field.
