Intuitive designs and manufactures state-of-the-art computer- and robot-assisted systems for use in minimally invasive surgery. Primary Function Of Position
The Future Forward Research group within Intuitive has an immediate opening in Sunnyvale, CA for a software engineer with a focus on XR (AR, MR, VR) technology, contributing to the exploration and development of new system concepts for the current and next generation robotic surgery and digital platforms. This role is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative team within a dynamic and challenging problem-solving environment.
A successful candidate must excel in a high-energy focused team environment, must have excellent communication skills and must be able to balance independent production of results with the need to collaborate during planning, development, integration, and evaluation of research concepts and minimum viable products. The ability to learn rapidly, as well as to drive to creative—yet practical—solutions from rough requirements are essential in this position. The candidate will work closely with other members of the research group as well as with other business units within Intuitive. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required, as is the ability to make work fun and interesting.
As Part Of The Research Team, Immediate Responsibilities Include
- Design, develop, debug, and deploy next-generation XR apps in Unity, C# or similar environments.
- Develop 3D applications for the latest XR devices such as HoloLens, Magic Leap, iOS, Oculus, Android.
- Develop high-fidelity 3D content, UI, assets, and interaction methods for XR devices.
- Develop new immersive reality features that contribute to the product roadmap.
- Integrate XR apps with back-end systems, APIs and services.
- Create documentation for the features being developed, the techniques that were tried and rejected or implemented.
- Apply good software engineering practices to write elegant, robust, reliable, maintainable, and reusable code.
Minimum Qualification
To adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the individual must possess:
- Minimum Education: BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Game Technology, Visualization Sciences, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in developing XR applications.
- Excellent Object-Oriented programming skills and hands-on experience in C++, C#, and Visual Studio.
- Hands-on experience in developing machine vision, SLAM, tracking, registration, and scene understanding algorithms.
- Rich experience in developing applications for head-mounted /hand-held XR devices such as - Oculus, HoloLens, iPhone or equivalent.
- Hands on experience with graphics, modelling and game development tools such as Unity, Unreal, Blender, Maya, OpenGL and DirectX.
- Experience working with one or more XR libraries such as ARKit, ARCore, AR Foundation, MRTK, WebXR, OpenCV, three.js and Vuforia.
- Excellent programming skills with a solid understanding of software engineering techniques, methodologies, and attention to detail.
- Self-starter with strong communication skills and able to work in a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience in early phases of product exploration and iteration based on incomplete requirements to shipping XR applications.
- Demonstrated a breadth of experience in developing rich UI/UX for XR applications.
- Able to view live and recorded surgical procedures.
- Ability to travel up to 10% time.
