Job Description
Minimum qualifications:
- PhD degree in LED related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of work experience in display and R&D Environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience of 2D/3D Micro-LED device architecture and light extraction; epitaxy material and structure; epitaxy growth equipment (MOCVD/MBE) and growth condition; and LED manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art Micro-LED technology in academic research and industry.
- Knowledge of theory of Micro-LED metrology and characterization (PL, EL, IV, etc) experience with both epitaxy and LED devices.
- Capable of failure analysis on LED defects and on factors that improve LED efficiency.
- Familiarity with the semiconductor processes.
- Excellent analytical skills and cross-functional communication.

The AR display R&D team is a fast moving group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the hardware, platform, and ecosystem for ground-breaking devices. In order to address complex challenges, we develop and integrate our own systems. Our Hardware team researches, designs, and develops new technologies to improve user productivity.
As a Hardware Engineer on our Display R&D team, you'll design and build the visual systems of the future. You will be part of a team developing high-performance and low-power displays that enable Google’s continuous innovations in devices. Additionally, you will assess, introduce, and evaluate new and existing technologies.
The Google Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality team is a group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and prototyping helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.
Responsibilities
- Innovate, develop, and integrate leading edge micro-LED display technologies for VR/AR.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of relationship between display technologies and its business goals.
- Guide and work with Micro-LEDs, semiconductors, materials, components, equipment, and display partners to solve the critical issues during display development phase.
- Lead cross-functional teams (e.g. Electrical, Organizational/Mechanical, Software Engineering, Display, UX) on display-optics system development from proof-of-concept phase till manufacturing phase.
- Troubleshoot both Micro-LED light emitting module and display module development issues including key efficiency, image quality, electrical and optical performance, and reliability problems.
