We are looking for an exceptional Principal Mechanical Engineer to plan, conceptualize, design, document, lead design reviews, procure and test high precision opto-mechanical tooling and fixtures. You will have the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplined team to deliver robust, repeatable fixturing and tooling used to manufacture high precision optics and optical assemblies.

What you will do is:


  • Use SolidWorks to design, perform finite element analysis, and document high precision opto-mechanical tooling and fixtures
  • Manage multiple projects supporting manufacturing’s different areas of optics; fabrication, cleaning, coating, and opto-mechanical assemblies in a high paced production environment
  • Lead the entire process of tool acquisition from concept to implementation

What will you bring to the team, along with your curiosity is:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; MS degree or equivalent advanced training is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years direct experience in the design of complex high-precision tooling, fixtures and/or systems incorporating robust and repeatable precision mechanisms, motorized actuation, thermo-elastic deformations. Laser systems and optical components production environment preferred.
  • Experience with all aspects of SolidWorks CAD software as a design, FEA analysis, and documentation tool. Experience with PDMWorks vault and / or ZEMAX is a plus.
  • A balance of engineering analytical skills {statics, vibration, thermal loads, material selection, kinematic mounting, tolerance budgets and analysis} combined with hands-on experiences and a proven track record of bringing multiple metrology tools in production environment.
  • Familiarity with risk management tools.
  • Communication skills, technical writing skills, project management skills and analytical skills
