In our pursuit to create a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM's global manufacturing engineering team is challenging the limits on what is possible and embracing agility as it reimagines how to build the next generation of vehicles. Our diverse team of manufacturing engineers play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies. From raw sheet metal to final assembly, this team is reinventing the tools and processes that will enable GM to deliver on our promise to create an all-electric future.

This position is available for GM applicants located within the country only.

Lateral or promotional based upon experience.

The Virtual Reality Coordinator (VRC) is responsible for coordinating activities with Virtual Engineering, Vehicle Product Develop Team, Manufacturing Engineering, and the Plant Operations Team to develop the Manufacturing Virtual Build Process for new vehicle programs.

Coordination will include the utilization of said process to identify and resolve issues related to product design and/or Manufacturing Requirements. The completed Manufacturing Virtual Build Process will be further utilized for the development of Operator Instruction and Training.

Virtual Build Events with large audiences for the purpose of education and

identification of Assembly Plant integration issues, along with other administrative responsibilities. Through execution of the VRC role, General Motors achieves excellence in product development, product launches, operator training and the execution of the Manufacturing Build Process.

Job Specific Responsibilities:
  • Getting Information - Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Coordinating the Work and Activities of Others - Getting members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks.
  • Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships - Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
  • Scheduling Work and Activities - Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Conduct review meetings with CMEs, Architecture Leads, TIEs, MEs, Design and Plant Engineers
  • Advise CME's and ASL's on study feasibility and math readiness
  • Ensure program timing is met for simulation deliverables being worked on by the larger VE team
  • Work flexible times based on program and team needs that change over time
  • Conduct virtual builds at various gates along the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
  • Develop and maintain detailed virtual build sequences for various plants and programs
  • Conduct virtual build events and review manufacturing build sequence proposals and related issues with product, manufacturing, and plant personnel
  • Collaborate with ergonomists and integrate ergo postures into the build sequence for virtual build events
  • Integrate layouts into the virtual builds and simulation studies as required
  • Interact with MEs, IEs, plant personnel, design engineers to complete the deliverables for virtual builds
  • Validate new process methods and technologies that broadens the application of virtual builds
Qualifications

Basic Required
  • 3 years' experience performing dynamic simulations using Process Simulate or similar software for BIW, GPS, or GA Assembly manufacturing operations
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient with Process Simulate / Tecnomatix (or equivalent Dynamic simulation software), MPP, Microsoft products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word...), TeamCenter, VisMockup, Nx, Video and image editing techniques, and familiar with building kinematics into simulations
  • Familiarity with manufacturing build processes as they relate to being able to simulate the processes in a VR environment.
  • Knowledgeable about GM specific processes & tools - VAS, GMS, VS BOP/BOE, Auros, Lean Manufacturing, GA Assembly tooling applications (power tools, lift assists, load arms...), TNT, SharePoint, writing standardized work (STS/TIS), Fastening hardware applications, GVDP, Skype
  • Efficient at working as part of a team, planning, and balancing personal workload with the needs of the team effectively in an environment with frequently changing priorities
  • High level of analytical abilities to solve complex problems
  • Ability to learn quickly through "on the job training" or "on the fly"
  • Able to facilitate meetings/workshops with cross functional groups including engineers and plant operations personnel. Candidate must be able to pull appropriate people together to organize and facilitate effective virtual reviews.
  • Ability to work flexible hours based on the needs of a Global team
Basic preferred
  • BS in Engineering
  • Master level degree in any discipline
  • Expert at Process Simulate (or equivalent Dynamic simulation software), MPP,
  • PowerPoint, Excel, VisMockup, VAS, SharePoint development, writing macros, VBA coding or equivalent
  • General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering experience in the Automotive industry
