Job Description

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for skilled and motivated Optical Engineers to join our Display and Optics team in FRL. Based on your expertise and your passion, you may work on one or more areas from the following: imaging optics, viewing optics, optical systems, optical metrology, display optics, optical characterization, optical material and optical fabrication processes. You will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers on the end-to-end product development cycle including concept, design, development, and integration of those optical components or systems. You will also work cross functionally to develop specifications and test methods, perform performance evaluation and work closely with manufacturing partners for prototyping and mass production.

Responsibilities
  • Define and design optical components for next generation AR and VR experience
  • Establish engineering specifications, including key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and subsystems
  • Work with diverse and highly interdisciplinary team members, e.g. optical design & simulation, process development and supply chain, to develop and mature new technologies for the viewing optics subsystems
  • Lead the development during New Product Introduction (NPI) to scale up for high volume manufacturing
