Mechanical Developer, Research & Development, Augmented Reality

Employer

Job Description

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing with existing mechanical fabrication and processing techniques, including their limitations (CNC/injection/casting/sheet metal/co-molding/plating/etching)
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical, electromechanical, or optomechanical component and systems level design.
  • 5 years of experience in electrical component design.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in microelectronics design, thermal design, and fabrication
  • Experience with landed innovative technologies in successful consumer electronics products. R&D experience in early conceptual stages.
  • Experience with battery construction, printed circuit board assembly, flexible printed circuit design rules, interconnects, thermal requirements, electromagnetic interference, electrostatic discharge, and radio frequency principles.
  • Familiar with optical principles (lenses, mirrors, optical coatings, and light properties)
  • Ability to parse complex systems into discrete variables/goals and communicate complex concepts at the component and system level

About The Job

In this role, you will join the mechanical team that supports hardware research and development with a broad scope of work.

Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a center of excellence in rapid mechanical design iterations, both to help drive subsystems specifications and to understand all the limits of certain approaches.
  • Provide system-level design for products in development. Work with leads across disciplines to identify guidelines and requirements for system level component specifications.
  • Provide optomechanical design for subsystems such as solid state light sources and optoelectronic packaging and for research projects (e.g, novel optical systems).
  • Conduct advanced material and processing techniques for cross-disciplinary mechanical, optical, electrical system components
  • Develop rapid mechanical design iterations, conceptual and physical, both to help drive subsystems specifications. Create innovative new mechanical technologies, such as new materials, processes, component integration, and assembly techniques.
