As a hands on Engineering Manager and Business Partner, you will have a chance to make a real impact to the business by imagining and inventing the future, co-creating it with our Global Digital Innovation Leads, while leading a small, agile team responsible for technology strategy, architecture design and engineering development. This is a critical role with direct accountability for realizing multi-horizon opportunities, infusing human-inspired digital innovation into the life of our market-leading brands, in service of our consumers, customers and the business.

The right person for this role is proactive with stakeholders, a self-starter who can work under broad direction, and is passionate about delivering world-class, first-of-a-kind solutions that split existing and emerging capabilities to bring tangible value. This individual also has the experience and technical background consistent with agile delivery of consumer-facing hybrid (hardware and software) cutting-edge digital solutions, including iterative design and rapid prototyping to support MVP, Pilot and Launch activities.

Scope/Categories

Role will report to the Global Director, Digital Innovation & Smart Products. This position has direct reports, and oversight on external resources.

Travel may include approximately 15% of work time.

Key Interfaces

Internal: Global and Regional R&E Leaders, Technical Strategists and Product Development SMEs, Consumer Brand teams; DTS Digital Innovation Leads, BPs, Project Managers, Enterprise & Solution Architects, Functional Engineers, Enterprise Data Management teams, Platform teams, Integration CoE, Infrastructure and CS&A teams, and other Leaders.

External: Contractors, Consulting Partners, 3rd Party service providers, Startups, Academia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Brings hands-on technical and product management expertise in leadership of Consumer-facing technology solutions, leveraging emerging tech and partners.
  • Drives a small, agile team through solution design and iterative execution, from conceptual stages through delivery/launch.
  • Ensures that select Innovation MVPs (Minimal Viable Products) can be taken through the necessary steps to become scalable, supportable managed solutions.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership in delivering tangible Digital Innovation outcomes and becomes a trusted advisor on Consumer-facing digital ecosystem solutions.
  • Leads complex workstreams, ensuring staged and timely delivery including solution design, architecture, development and operational support.
  • Ensures the team taps into existing best practices, and/or introduce industry-leading techniques, technologies and architectures as needed.
  • Leads with a deep understanding of the full technology stack, working with emerging and traditional technologies, adjusting between the art of the possible and the requirements to adhere to privacy and security protection guidelines.
  • Takes ownership of solution design & development, partnering with the Digital Innovation Leads and leading the technical team on requirements gathering, concepts generation, detailed design, verification testing, cross-functional reviews and production release.
  • Develops & sustains close partnerships with Global R&D and Business SMEs to fully understand demands/future opportunities, evaluating how to engage for value creation.
  • Acts as a disruptive change agent fluidly moving back & forth between transformation initiatives and day-to-day business as usual, to deliver the optimal mix of innovation.
  • Listens for reflection and partners with business to deliver outcomes.
  • Establishes day-to-day operational support and long-term strategy for the Team.
  • Works with stakeholders and peers to negotiate project plans, time frames and trade-offs while ensuring all stakeholder expectations are in-sync.
  • Develops staff with the needed functional and technical skills.
  • Demonstrates deep learning agility and promotes a learning culture. Acts and influences as a people leader across the organization.
  • Takes personal accountability for self-development, while building and developing talent.
  • Manages supplier management activities (e.g. RFPs, partner selection, SoW, POs, etc.)
  • Ensures overall service delivery support operations including audits, change, incident, problem and configuration management, as needed to support the Portfolio.
  • Prepares reports and proactive updates Leaders / Stakeholders on relevant metrics.
  • Prepares and manages departmental budget and forecast plans (budget vs. actuals, etc.)
  • Required Qualifications

    And Experiences
    • B.S., B. A. degree. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
    • 7-10 years of equivalent experience in information technology leading remote, global teams and a minimum of 3-5 years with Emerging Tech. (IoT, Voice, AR/VR, AI/ML, etc.).
    • 5 years of hands-on experience in designing and developing end-to-end digital solutions.
    • Proven experience with various architectural design patterns including Microservices, API's, event-driven data flows, serverless, containers, connectivity, etc.
    • Rapid prototype development and familiarity with iterative prototyping techniques.
    • Proven experience with industry standards and approaches to designing and building secure digital products.
    • Deep understanding of full tech stacks (Java, JavaScript, Swift, Python, React, Node.js, RESTful services, GraphQL, Message brokers (MQTT), JSON, HTML/HTML5, CSS, etc.).
    • Proven experience designing, developing and supporting solutions based on cloud architectures, e.g. AWS, Azur, IoT Hub, Serverless computing (e.g. AWS Lambda, Azure Functions), compute (e.g. Kubernetes containers), Cloud-based databases (e.g. Azure database), and raw storage (e.g. storage blobs, S3, etc.).
    • Proven experience with UI/UX, Mobile front-end and backend logical components of a digital ecosystem, including design patterns for scalability and resiliency.
    • Proven experience working with Agile and Product teams (e.g. epics, stories, sprints, backlog management, product owners, product engineers, scrum master, etc.).
    • Background in dealing with hardware & software development teams and business owners; comfortable interfacing directly with and influencing SMEs.
    • Direct experience with Outsourcing and Consulting/Contract partners.
    • Demonstrated skills in application delivery, client relationship management, strong sense of urgency in delivering results, business knowledge, intuition and judgment, high cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity, strong communication/collaboration.
    • Proficient in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience leading multi-cultural and globally dispersed teams, including contractors.
    • Experience in a matrix organization, influencing stakeholders in consultative mode and working proactively with Business and IT peers globally.
