At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a Lead Fabrication Research Engineer with passion for technology and leadership to join our team, whose mission is to deliver beyond state-of-the-art Waveguide Technologies for consumer near to eye displays at our research and development facilities. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience leading novel optical device nanofabrication projects in a clean room environment. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of research scientists, process engineers and technicians to develop future generation augmented reality display. You will be empowered to explore future technology roadmap and translate that into prototyping. More specifically you will lead the research and development of fabrication processes and tools to enable delivery of next generation optical concepts and prototypes targeting display systems leveraging nanostructured optics and active optical technologies. You will receive full support from the management and leadership team to grow your technical and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Technical Program Managers, leadership team and other research scientists & engineers to devise and execute on the program priorities.
- Enable identification and exploration of novel fabrication processes, technologies & tools needed to enable future generation display.
- Execute on both end to end integration and module research & development within the fab for fast prototyping and testing.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Productization and Process Engineering teams to ensure fab operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualification
- A PhD degree in the field of Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or equivalent work experience.
- 1+ year of experience leading a sector within an R&D or production fab for advanced node semiconductor or optical device fabrication.
- 1+ years experience with optical device characterization techniques.
Preferred Qualification
- 2+ years of experience in novel optical device fabrication including AR display, diffractive waveguides, silicon-photonics, metastructures, etc.
- 2+ years of experience with standard nanofabrication technologies including lithography, etch, deposition, cleans, metrology, and materials.
- 1+ years experience in novel optical device design including diffractive waveguides, silicon-photonics, metastructures, etc.
