Job Description
Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.
The FRL Display and Optics organization is looking for a talented and driven individual to contribute to the future of AR/VR advancements. Our team is responsible for productization of D&O modules that go into final products. We are also responsible for supporting prototyping needs to support our productization goals. We want people who work well in teams, can take a board definition and implement it with electrical schematic and layout, and can transition these designs into a contract-manufacturers workflow to have them delivered, tested, and brought-up reliably. As a Technical Lead within the electrical engineering team, you will play a key role in facilitating the architecture, fabrication, and distribution of complex AR/VR demonstrator systems. You will be an electrical/hardware engineer with a background in video or graphic based systems, with experience using FPGA's to realize your designs. In this role, you will be depended upon to contribute your expertise in how systems with complex graphical pipelines are architected. You will be expected to be an expert in end-to-end video or image processing chains for cameras and displays, to help guide the architecture of these systems. In addition, you will design, build, and test prototype electrical systems. You will become part of a team supporting fast iterative prototyping needs, that will require you to work cross-functionally with teams that will dynamically change depending on the problem or project. Lastly, you will use your strong leadership skills to take full ownership, and operate independently to support the hardware needs of the organization. This at times will involve mentoring engineers or leading small groups of engineers to deliver upon complex prototype systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking full ownership of tasks, and driving them to completion by partnering with the immediate team and cross-functional partners. In addition to their core electrical engineering competency, this individual must demonstrate the ability to be organized, set schedules, communicate schedules, and be experienced at delivering their deliverables on-time per their committed schedules.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to ingest task requirements
- Communicate timelines of deliverables with key customers
- Create architecture diagrams and documentation for electrical systems
- Create schematics, specify components, and support building component libraries
- Design, simulate, prototype, and test electrical systems working closely with FPGA, FW/SW, silicon design engineers, and customer teams
- Oversee the design of FPCs/PCBs, including considerations for high-speed layout considerations, SI/PI, desense, DFM, etc.
- Facilitate the assembly and testing of electrical designs by managing your contract manufacturing partners
- Lead and mentor engineers in the development of complex graphics based prototypes
Minimum Qualification
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of industry experience designing consumer or professional products involving graphics
- Creativity, communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills
- Team player and detail oriented. Displays attributes of a critical thinker and leverages innovative ideas
- Experience creating system and device specifications
- Experience in schematic and board layout using Altium, Cadence, or equivalent
- Experience with flexible, rigid, and rigid-flex stack-ups and layout principles, including high speed signal integrity (multi-Gigabit), power layout, de-sense, DFM, etc.
- Circuit design experience in high speed differential circuits that include FPGAs, uControllers, uProcessors, power supply circuits, etc.
- Experience using oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, and function generators
Preferred Qualification
- Masters or equivalent experience
- Experience with high-speed communication interfaces enabling 100Gb+ data-rates
- Experience with leveraging FPGA's to instantiate IP blocks for HS data-interfaces and graphical pipelines
- Experience with communication interfaces, such as Ethernet, MIPI, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIe, USB, I2C, SPI, etc.
- Experience working with displays or optical components (i.e. display drivers or camera sensor drivers)
- Experience developing demonstrator systems for AR/VR/MR products in HMD or other formats
- Experience with circuit simulations & modeling (e.g. SPICE, MATLAB, ModelSim, or Xilinx, etc.)
- Experience programming in C, scripting languages such as Python, or equivalent, creating initial system bring-up, debugging, and test hooks
