The ideal candidate will have a passion for leading research and development in Computational Photography spanning the fields of computer vision and computer graphics. Background in applying both traditional and applying machine learning to these disciplines desirable. The successful candidate will see their work translated into tangible experiences for end users around the world.Mission Statement: Innovate new ways for people to capture their moments anywhere and bring them to life in shareable experiences.The computational photography (CP) team performs in fairly equal thirds: fundamental research at the intersection of computer vision and computer graphics, innovation/incubation of new CP experiences, and product work for AR/VR and the family-of-apps at Facebook to create and maintain photo and video experiences. Examples of current product work include CP algorithms for AR/VR devices, 3D Photos in Facebook app, as well as image quality algorithms across many surfaces.The Computational Photography team is unique in its abilities to operate at all parts of the product development cycle from basic research through product deliverables. There are significant growth opportunities as media takes a more central role in both AR and VR as well as in the traditional Facebook apps (FB, Instagram, etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team including at least 2 engineering managers as well as a few individual contributors. Develop strategic plans in conjunction with Director, as well as interface with many product partners.
  • Provide technical leadership and/or management for a world class team of researchers and engineers in the Computational Photography group at Facebook.
  • Drive technology development from architecture to deep algorithmic solutions for problems in computer vision and graphics.
  • Recruit world-class talent and provide mentorship to team members supporting their professional growth.
  • Build products to delight people world-wide with new photo and video experiences.
  • Create partnerships across the organization.
Minimum Qualification
  • 5+ years of managing a group of engineers and/or researchers.
  • Working knowledge of computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning.

Preferred Qualification
  • Interest in photography.
  • Experience in both academia and industry.
  • Demonstrated experience moving ideas into product.
  • Experience working across disciplines and teams.
