As a Research Design Manager on the Facebook Reality Labs Research team, you will be working on the cutting edge of Augmented Reality experiences. With our Research Team, you will explore, prototype, and build experiences that define the future of how people interact in AR. You love solving novel problems from first principles. Join a world-class team experimenting with bold ideas in areas including optics, haptics, tracking, displays, computer vision, user experience, audio, and perceptual psychology. Work alongside expert Interaction Designers, Scientists, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Software Engineers to create the technology that makes AR pervasive and universal.
Responsibilities
- Hire, mentor and manage small-to-medium design teams that consistently deliver on projects and are well-balanced across the different design skill sets, including researchers, designers and prototypers
- Responsible for overall team performance and health, resource allocation, project prioritization, and building a culture of design excellence
- Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for people using our research
- Use design to describe complex features and systems in detail and communicate technical information effectively to cross functional teams
- Empower individuals on the team to define, develop and execute design plans and activities
- Contribute to strategic decisions for executive teams, working with engineering and research teams
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies
- Quickly identify and solve issues with your cross-functional leads
- Give and solicit feedback from others to raise the quality and craftsmanship of the design work
Minimum Qualification
- 5+ years of experience in leading design teams in the development of emerging technologies
- Experience with facilitating design thinking workshops, service design, or design strategy processes with cross functional teams
- An understanding of the product development process and has delivered products to the marketplace at scale and volume
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative methods for user research
- Portfolio featuring examples of design for emerging technologies
Preferred Qualification
- Experience working with new technologies and incubating them into refined prototypes
- Experience collaborating in a highly cross-functional environment that spans multiple design, engineering disciplines and research domains
- Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies
