The Facebook Reality Labs team at Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality hardware and software. With global departments dedicated to AR/VR research, machine perception, graphics, operating systems, social interaction, and more, we are committed to driving the state of the art forward through relentless innovation. AR and VR potential to change the world is immense and we’re just getting started.We are currently seeking an Engineering Manager to manage a team of engineers building a novel Operating System focused on the needs of AR. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing, building, debugging, and repairing complex multi-component systems typical of an Operating System in addition to strong communication, organizational, and people management skills. You have a passion for building and managing high performance teams working on 0 to 1 projects.
Responsibilities
- Build and grow a high performance team designing and implementing core Operating System services, libraries and runtime components through strong recruiting and people management practices.
- Help set the direction and goals for the team, in terms of project impact, product quality, and engineering efficiency.
- Plan and coordinate major initiatives such as phased onboarding of internal and external SW products/solutions on the new Operating System.
- Manage engineers and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.
- Influence the engineering culture in your broader team and advocate for higher product quality and engineering efficiency.
Minimum Qualification
- 7+ years experience working on systems software in a large-scale C or C++ code base.
- 3+ years experience managing and growing software engineers.
- Experience with processes including: source control, bug tracking, design documentation, and sprint planning based Software Development.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience developing, debugging, and shipping software products on large code bases that span platforms and tools.
Preferred Qualification
- Demonstrated knowledge of Operating Systems internals on at least one platform.
- Experience with asynchronous programming with C++.
- Experience with developing for ARM based platforms.
