Job Summary

The Senior VR/MR and 3D Simulation Software Engineer is responsible for developing 3D applications for simulation, synthetic dataset creation, and interactive 3D visualization within the Manufacturing IT organization. The role entails working with a team of AI, 3D, and robotics engineers to improve the vehicle manufacturing process. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and 3D development, using tools that are typically used in the video game industry, but are rapidly becoming relevant to the AI field. The ideal candidate will have experience with both 3D development and deep learning computer vision.

Additional Job Description

Specific areas of Responsibility Include:
  • Creating 3D rendered, synthetic image datasets with Unreal Engine for training artificial intelligence
  • Working directly with AI and Robotics engineers to train deep learning algorithms for various tasks (for example: automated defect detection, automated robot manipulation)
  • Developing interactive visualization applications with Unity for HoloLens mixed reality devices
  • Collaborating with internal GM customers to create useful VR/MR tools to help them be more productive
  • Seeking out new software, frameworks, tools, and skills to solve novel problems

Qualifications
  • 7+ years in the software engineering industry
  • 3+ years of experience with Unity 3D and/or Unreal Engine
  • Experience developing interactive applications for virtual reality and/or mixed reality (e.g. HoloLens/Magic Leap)
  • Experience implementing Deep Learning Computer Vision libraries
  • High level intuition about how deep neural networks work
  • Knowledge in C++, C#, Python
  • Strong problem-solving skills and persistence to push through
