The Facebook Reality Labs AR/VR team at Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class hardware and software. We are a team of world-class experts developing and shipping products at the intersection of hardware, software, content and health through relentless innovation. In creating our next generation of wearable products, we are currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager to manage a team of engineers focused on developing the tools required to develop wearables, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) products at scale. The ideal candidate has strong design skills, a passion for systems software and hands-on experience delivering large scale tooling platforms for debugging, testing and new technology explorations. You are the kind of leader who has expertise building and supporting high-performance teams that create highly reliable, robust, and performant systems software and tools. You have hands-on experience leading teams bringing up new development, debugging and testing platforms. You have a passion for shipping software that enables firmware engineers to succeed across several products.
Responsibilities
- Build team roadmap to support future generations of products, working with product management and cross functional partners.
- Manage engineers and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams.
- Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
- Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees.
Minimum Qualification
- 10+ years of work experience architecting, developing, and launching software products and/or services.
- 5+ years experience managing and growing software engineers.
- Experience with Software Development process, including: source control, bug tracking, and design documentation.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Experience developing, debugging, and shipping large-scale software platforms that other developers use.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience building firmware tooling or platforms for developer test environments.
