Magic Leap is looking for PhD and Masters students to join our team for a 3 month Summer Program for Underrepresented Students in Engineering. In partnership with STEM departments at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Women In Engineering Institutions, and broader universities we are committed to empowering and elevating diversity of thought, experience, and background in our workforce and in our pipeline of future researchers!

Job Description

The Product Research team is seeking a PhD student for a summer internship to conduct applied user research on the value and effect of Augmented Reality for our customers. The Product Research team informs leadership and other teams on what constitutes a useful and usable Augmented Reality product. We work closely with other departments such as Product Management, Quantified Experience, System engineering, Optical Engineering, and Human Factors.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrable interest in, and experience with new technology, virtual environments and applied behavioral research. We seek people who are self-starters with creative, dynamic and independent thinking skills.

You will need to go into our office regularly in Plantation, Florida. (Near Miami/Ft. Lauderdale)

Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with Product Research, explore challenges and opportunities to valuable use of Augmented Reality throughout use cases
  • Work with behavioral scientists to conduct high-quality studies from beginning to end (literature review, recruitment, proctoring, data management, documentation)
  • Design, configure and/or develop materials (e.g., experimental content and/or software, measurements) for research purposes
  • Build familiarity with the devices that Magic Leap psychological research teams use
Must-Haves
  • Master’s degree in Psychology or Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience with applied behavioral research in the lab and/or the field
  • Skilled in Unity 3D or Unreal (C++/C#) for prototyping/research purposes
  • Skilled in R, Python, SPSS or another statistical package that is scriptable
Nice to have
  • Experience with VR or AR
