Job Description
Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.
Facebook Reality Labs focuses on connecting people through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of these products require custom silicon. The Facebook Agile Silicon Team (FAST) is driving the state-of-the-art forward with breakthroughs in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, sensors, and new ways to map the human body. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware, and algorithms. This role is for an individual technical contributor. Your role is to take a holistic view of AR/VR’s product portfolio and FAST’s long-term silicon roadmap, and from there to identify future needs of the Facebook Reality Labs as they relate to custom silicon. This position will play a function similar to that of the “office of the CTO” for FAST. Your goal is to identify and drive new org-scale initiatives through concept exit. You will be equally responsible for driving new chips and IPs from ideation through concept approval, and identifying, defining and prioritizing advanced technologies that warrant exploratory development by FAST. This role requires close collaboration with FAST leadership, SOC/IP architecture teams, Silicon Strategy & Partnerships, and with cross functional software and product teams. We are committed to a whole-system, multidisciplinary approach. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with cross functional product and research teams. We are seeking a technologist who is at his/her core an expert in one or more areas closely tied to custom, low-power, vertically integrated, domain specific, product-oriented silicon such as ML, CV, and Graphics. An ideal candidate will have a proven track record of driving 0->1 innovation for large scale hardware projects.
Responsibilities
- You will work with silicon strategic planning, with silicon IP teams, and with silicon SoC architecture teams to identify and define new initiatives
- Work with cross-functional partners in software teams, research teams and product development to understand and prioritize needs and requirements
- Work with external ASIC (and ASIC ecosystem) vendors to define the required technologies
Minimum Qualification
- 8+ years of relevant experience and a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering field
- Experience in custom System and SoC architectures with focus on Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Image Signal Processing, Graphics or similar fields
- Proven track record of initiating and leading/driving architecture and/or implementation of complex SoCs for new products or product categories
- Experience in applying domain research into efficient SoC architectures and implementation
- 100% self-driven, self-motivated, self-sufficient in explorations
Preferred Qualification
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering field is highly preferred
- Proven track record of productization and driving innovation, either at a startup or an incubated team inside a larger company
- Experience dealing with ambiguity in the fast changing consumer electronics field
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary, international team
