At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware systems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Program Manager to join our team, whose mission is creating the future of input and interaction for AR and VR. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience owning and driving vision and strategy across a portfolio of hardware development projects in close partnership with leadership from research, hardware engineering, product management, and design. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities

• Program manage across a portfolio of new hardware programs from initial conception, through hardware design and development, to delivery of tested, useable prototypes
• drive creation of and own messaging of the overarching vision for this complete portfolio
• Work across cross-functional partners (materials science, hardware engineering, research, and design) to identify scope, constraints, dependencies, risks, and timelines across portfolio of investments
• Proactively identify technical, procedural, legal, logistical, and communications challenges and drive creative solutions to resolve issues and mitigate risks
• Coordinate communications across internal and external teams, including upwards communication to team leadership
  

Minimum Qualification

• Holds a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field
• 7+ years experience with project/program management in a technical domain building, coordinating, and maintaining schedules and shared resources across multiple inter-disciplinary teams for hardware development projects
• Experience understanding and communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders
• Track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in a highly organized manner
• Experience working with organizational leadership to define and communicate team’s long term mission, vision, and strategy
  
  

Preferred Qualification

• Experience within academic or industry research settings
• Experience with development of novel, “0-1”, hardware prototypes
• Familiarity with one or more of the following domains would be a bonus: AR/VR, bio-sensing, HCI, novel materials manufacturing, soft electronics, wearable technologies, soft goods manufacturing
