Hardware Systems Electrical Engineer

Employer

Job Description

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is creating the future of input and interaction for AR and VR. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in electrical systems design and analog circuits and who can work with a team of researchers to design, integrate, and characterize prototype wearable bioinstrumentation systems. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design, integrate and test electrical systems, including architecture, component selection, PCB schematic and layout, bring-up, RTL, characterization, and integration
  • Integrate electronics with optical, mechanical, firmware, and software components, as part of a multidisciplinary team, to create wearable biomedical instrumentation
  • Characterize, debug, and test systems using bench-top laboratory equipment and scripting
  • Work closely with researchers to understand their goals and elicit system architecture requirements
  • Mature prototypes to increasing levels of fidelity, ranging from proof-of-concept demonstrations to integrated systems
Minimum Qualification
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of industry experience in electrical hardware design
  • Experience with board and system design, PCB schematic and layout (using Altium, Cadence, or similar), bring-up, debug, and characterization using bench-top laboratory equipment
  • Experience integrating electrical systems that include components such as low-noise analog front end circuits, power circuits, amplifiers, sensors, optoelectronics, communication interfaces (e.g., MIPI, USB, I2C, SPI, PCIe, etc.), ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, and power sequencing
  • Analog design experience, including advanced circuit simulation skills (using SPICE, or similar)

Preferred Qualification
  • Experience with bioinstrumentation or biometric sensing technologies such as electromyography (EMG), pulse oximetry, photoplethysmogram (PPG), electroencephalography (EEG), ultrasound, electrophysiological monitoring, galvanic skin response (GSR), or barometric sensors
  • Experience in consumer product hardware design and exposure to DFM (design for manufacturing) principles
  • Experience leading technical projects, cross-functional teams, and vendors
  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
