As a Principal RF Design Engineer you will innovate new solutions in the area of Switch mode RF power systems for semiconductor processing applications. You will perform or direct the completion of complex engineering assignments involved in the research, design, and development of an overall project. You can work independently, directing and coordinating the work of technical personnel engaged in the development, construction and design verification testing of RF delivery systems, compilation of engineering data, analysis of system and sub-system behavior and solving complex engineering problems. Position will be located in Rochester NY.


Your job:

  • Switch mode RF power amplifier (e.g. Class D) circuit/system design, simulation, and testing (including schematic capture and pc board layout)
  • Design of high power RF combiners and power/impedance sensors
  • Evaluation of new power device technology (e.g. Silicon Carbide, Gallium Nitride)
  • Validating performance in real-world situations (e.g. in a plasma processing environment)
  • Working with software and controls engineers to optimize performance and reliability


Required skills:

  • MSEE or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in a power electronics-related field
  • Experience with design and/or testing of high power (>1kW) power conversion systems
  • Broad professional objectives: deep knowledge in power electronics with interests and curiosity in the adjacent fields of software, digital electronics, controls, physics
  • Experience and interest with system and circuit simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, etc.)
  • Strong theoretical background in electronics
  • Interest and experience in testing power electronics (e.g. network analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters)
  • Basic understanding of control system theory
  • Good writing skills (proposals, specifications, test reports, engineering analyses, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills a must
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment with purchasing, manufacturing engineering, etc.
