The teams working on augmented and virtual reality technologies at Facebook are on a mission to build the next computing platform centered around people. We continue to push the state of the art with groundbreaking research into emerging technologies and hardware that will help bring this vision to life. We are building a team focused on building new products that support this mission.Facebook i18n is looking for an experienced Japanese Language Manager who preferably has a background of translation or localization for consumer devices and gaming content. You will be involved in ensuring that we deliver a great user experience on new devices like Oculus Quest and Portal to our international audience through high quality translations for our Facebook Reality Labs products. As we work closely with team members in remote offices and regional stakeholders, it is very important that the candidate be comfortable working with remote teams across different time zones.
Responsibilities
- Editing and/or translating high visibility UI and long-form content and documents for Facebook Reality Labs products
- Performing localization testing to identify linguistic and functional issues
- Working closely with product teams and performing hands-on hardware linguistic testing on next generation of AR/VR devices
- Supervising and training external vendor translators to ensure the quality of the translation they deliver is as expected
- Maintaining the localization glossaries and style guides for Facebook Reality Labs content
- keeping them up-to-date and audience appropriate
- Providing TM maintenance for Facebook Reality Labs content
- Working closely with the in-country teams to deliver market appropriate translation
- Collaborating with source content owners to ensure that language requirements from technical and linguistic perspectives are understood and supported
- Performing other linguistic tasks as needed
Minimum Qualification
- Native fluency in Japanese and business proficiency in English
- 3+ years of experience in English-to-Japanese translation and localization
- Familiarity with the Japanese culture and trends
- BA or equivalent in a similar field such as translation, linguistics, communications etc.
Preferred Qualification
- Cross-functional experience working with engineers and product teams
- Experience in AR, VR, smart home devices, FB hardware products (Oculus Quest/Portal) or related technologies
- Experience in hardware localization and testing
- Experience in localization of gaming content
- Experience in localization of online and mobile products
- Experience in localization project management
- Familiarity with the Facebook Translations application as well as other computer-aided translation tools
- Familiarity with digital marketing
- Knowledge of additional languages (other than native and English)
- Master of Arts or equivalent
