Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is dedicated to the research and development required to bring augmented reality to people around the world. We are looking for a talented Software (SW) Technical Program Manager (TPM) with a strong technical background in the Cellular + Wireless connectivity space covering the needs of AR/VR systems and who can contribute to products from definition through production. This role will also expose you to many cross functional teams and you will get to experience building products for the future. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of highly technical TPM processes, as well as deep understanding of Cellular and other Wireless systems, passion for systems software and embedded device architectures, familiarity with various OS architectures and programming models and experience working on Operating Systems Cellular wireless stacks and carrier certification activities as well as experience with shipping cell and wireless hardware/software products in the personal computing, or consumer electronics space. You are the kind of TPM who has expertise driving and managing high performance teams creating highly reliable, robust, and performant systems software. You have hands-on experience coordinating and leading teams bringing up new wireless hardware and software systems and have significant experience debugging and repairing complex, multi-component system level issues using a variety of OS, Networking and device debugging tools. You have the passion for shipping software to production following different stages of testing and certification.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the teams designing and implementing cell and wireless connectivity software stacks
  • Help drive the team to solve the hard problems and debug complex, system-level, multi-component issues that typically span across multiple layers from modem, middlewares and the application
  • Closely collaborate with carrier engineering, certification, and product management teams to drive, track, and deliver Cellular and other wireless technology features for the certification of AR/VR/Portal/Wearables products across multiple mobile network operators worldwide
  • Create development, delivery, and compliance schedules based on device requirements, technical challenges, lead-times and business needs provided by carrier engineering and certification teams
  • Deliver HW, SW/FW and support logistics for required testing, user trials, telecom carriers for certification
  • Issue triage - identify nature of issue, allocate affected HW to the appropriate HW or SW/FW teams, provide issue disposition, enable rapid turn time before lab entry and same-day fix
  • Create, collaborate with HW and SW stakeholders, communicate program status, and deliver on validation schedules
  • Coordinate and contribute to engineering deliverables including specifications and test plans
  • Develop project goals and schedules based on product requirements, technical challenges, and business needs
  • Work with teams to set milestones, communicate project statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks, cutting through ambiguity and driving clarity
  • Demonstrate “bias for action”: pro-actively seek out and correct inefficiencies, contribute to resource planning
  • Anticipate: see around corners, identify/address potential setbacks
  • Drive device prescan and work with compliance team for final certification
  • Up to 20% travel
Minimum Qualification
  • Experience as a TPM leading Devs (SW/FW), QA and System Engineers working on different layers of networking/wireless protocol stacks
  • Experience working on multiple classes of wireless - Cellular, WiFi, BT, NFC and GNSS
  • Experience with Software Development processes including: source control, bug tracking, and design documentation
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Familiar with carrier certification process and preparation for feature delivery from the development, familiarity with carrier features, certification specifications and industry cellular standards
  • Understanding of mobile network operators business models and incentives
  • Familiarity with carrier features, wireless systems and technologies in consumer products
  • Knowledge of phase gate approach to technology development projects
  • Experience operating autonomously in ambiguous and complex environments
  • Experience with RF conducted and radiated measurements
  • Familiarity with cellular network infrastructure, radio access network technologies, and/or carrier certification specifications and industry standards
  • Experience developing, debugging, and shipping embedded software products on large code bases that span platforms and tools
  • Track record of delivering products
  • 10+ years experience as a program manager working in a cross-functional software Operating System or Platform development environment or equivalent experience
  • Experience with software development processes and best practices
  • Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams and dealing with ambiguity
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience with cell and other wireless connectivity compliance/certification process
  • Experience with modern cell and other wireless protocols and systems architecture
  • Experience with telco and network security standards and policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating systems internals on at least one platform
