At Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to join and lead our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test future consumer VR and AR experiences. You will lead a team of engineers exploring new concepts through fast iterative prototyping. You will work cross-functionally with diverse teams including mechanical, firmware, software, research scientists, and advanced manufacturing engineers. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept through design, and tolerate a high degree of ambiguity. Your primary role will be split between managing a team of talented engineers, creating and driving engineering principles and strategy across the organization, and building out our new world-class facility, including HW lab space.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of diverse and talented hardware engineers
• Drive engineering strategy and process improvement across the organization
• Collaborate in a highly cross-functional environment that spans multiple engineering disciplines and research domains
• Provide management, career guidance, and mentorship for the team
• Build out a new world-class engineering facility, including HW lab space
• Willingness to work within ambiguous and undefined projects, and is able to synthesize them into coherent strategies and plans
  

Minimum Qualification

• 10+ years experience managing engineering teams that work on complex electromechanical systems in cross functional environments
• Experience working with new technologies and incubating them into refined prototypes
• An understanding of the product development process and has delivered products to the marketplace at scale and volume
• Can provide a portfolio of successful projects/programs/products that through their efforts, achieved the intended business goals
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  
  

Preferred Qualification

• 15+ years experience managing diverse and talented engineering teams
• Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies
• Experience collaborating with remote teams across the globe
• Demonstrated experience developing new engineering principles/plans based on strategies that resulted in the advancement of existing and/or new technologies
