At Facebook Reality Labs, our goal is to invent the user interface technologies that will drive the future of augmented-reality experiences. Our aim is to unleash human potential by erasing the bottlenecks between intent and action. As a Visiting Researcher, you would focus on developing novel systems for augmented reality glasses that leverage eye-tracking to improve interaction. Our interaction research lies at the intersection of cognitive science, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. Researchers are expected to collaborate to integrate their work into real-time interactive systems in our lab and validate their solutions through user studies. Researchers will have the opportunity to publish in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and should collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary experts, including applied machine learning, perceptual science, design, and software engineering. This is a 24 month long position.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute cutting-edge research leveraging eye-tracking for interaction with AR/VR technologies.
- Work collaboratively with other scientists and designers to either (1) develop novel models of eye gaze behaviour, or (2) develop novel interaction techniques that leverage gaze along with other input modalities.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and designers across disciplines to solve complex problems.
- Publish and present papers at international conferences and journals and attend top conferences in the field.
Minimum Qualification
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of human-computer interaction, cognitive science, computational neuroscience, computer science, or similar.
- 3+ years of experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
- 3+ years of experience designing and analyzing user studies and improving research projects through user/participant behaviour and feedback.
- Proven track record of achieving research results and innovation as demonstrated by first-authored publications and/or patents.
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualification
- 3+ years of experience working with eye-tracking technologies.
- Interpersonal skills, cross-group collaboration, and cross-culture collaboration.
- Experience with machine learning of user state (e.g., time-series modeling, deep learning, reinforcement learning) and/or demonstrated experience developing novel interaction techniques.
- Experience working with data in naturalistic environments and continuous interaction tasks.
- Familiarity with AR/VR technologies.
