Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is dedicated to the research and development required to bring augmented reality to people around the world. We are looking for a talented Software (SW) Technical Program Manager (TPM) with a technical background in operating system fundamentals, covering the needs of AR/VR systems, and who can contribute to products from definition through production. This role will also expose you to many cross functional teams and you will get to experience building products for the future. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of highly technical TPM processes, as well as deep understanding of Operating system topics, how they interact with multi component systems, passion for systems software and embedded device architectures, and familiarity with various OS architectures and programming models.This is an opportunity to drive key software initiatives across disciplines as well as integrating them with hardware roadmaps. You will collaborate with engineering and product management on strategy, team goals and with primary responsibility to lead execution of all phases of the development cycle, planning requirements, managing schedules, identifying and tracking risks and clear communication to project stakeholders about features our OS team delivers to customers. You will work with the teams to identify and solve a diverse set of technical challenges across the full technology stack: hardware, firmware, kernel, frameworks and applications. Responsibilities
- Develop project schedules based on product requirements, technical challenges, and business needs
- Manage communication within and between external engineering firms and Facebook Reality Labs software and marketing teams
- Work with teams to set milestones, communicate project statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks
- Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and product development processes in a quickly-changing and dynamic environment
- Coordinate and contribute to engineering deliverables including specifications and test plans
- Ensure project documents are complete, current and available for staff and leadership review
- Engage with cross-functional teams to identify constraints, dependencies, risks/issues, and to deliver software features
- Identify resources needed and work closely with the team leads to maintain full visibility of multiple projects, ensuring resource gaps are addressed efficiently
- Up to 15% travel
Minimum Qualification
- Experience as a TPM leading Devs (SW/FW), QA and System Engineers working on middle to lower layers of the software stack, in app frameworks, operating systems, and/or BSP/drivers
- Experience with Software Development processes including: source control, bug tracking, and design documentation
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams
- Experience developing, debugging, and shipping embedded software products on large code bases that span platforms and tools
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Track record of delivering products
- 10+ years experience as a program manager working in a cross-functional software Operating System or Platform development environment or equivalent experience
- Experience with software development processes and best practices
- Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams and dealing with ambiguity
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with multiple operating systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of operating systems internals on at least one platform
