Responsibilities

The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) team at Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) hardware and software. With global departments dedicated to AR/VR research, computer vision, haptics, social interaction, and more, FRL is committed to driving the state of the art forward through relentless innovation. The potential of AR/VR to change the world is immense and we’re just getting started.Our Technology Engineering for Devices (TED) team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future Oculus products. From mixed reality and human interaction to natural inputs and beyond, TED is focused on transforming new technologies from early concept to product by iterating, prototyping, and realizing the human value and new experiences these technologies enable.The Depth HW team within TED develops high-performance depth solutions for FRL’s AR/VR products. This multidisciplinary group bring research to life by realizing state of the art custom modules including ASIC, lasers, optics, sensors, firmware etc. Depth HW team is seeking a projector module lead for end to end ownership of laser based optical modules from initial design to delivery in high volume. This is a central role in realizing module maturity at respective product development milestones by consolidating work of many cross-functional partners. Example cross functional teams include architecture, optical, electrical, mechanical, process, test, firmware, components, module vendor, operations, quality, reliability, product design etc. Key responsibilities include:
  • Own tradeoff studies optimizing module manufacturability, efficiency, cost, fit and reliability while still meeting architecture use case requirements.
  • Define and document module requirements to cross functional partners and vendors.
  • Manage module vendor to timely deliver modules meeting all documented requirements.
  • Define supply chain test strategy to ensure rapid learnings during development.
  • Drive failure analysis to thoroughly understand all module failure modes and mechanisms.
  • Report out concise/clear status summaries to cross-functional executive teams.
Minimum Qualification
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Optics or related discipline and/or experience
  • 5+ years of applicable Industry experience
  • Experience in consumer electronics space utilizing a product development cycle methodology
  • Data analysis and statistics using JMP, Minitab or other data analysis software
  • ASIC and module integration electrical design for sensing applications

Preferred Qualification
  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Optics
  • Experience in optical module experience
  • Production process, test and equipment development experience in consumer electronics space
  • Mechanical design and tolerance analysis experience in consumer electronics space, specifically where fit is tightly constrained
  • Custom ASIC and module integration electrical design experience for sensing applications
  • Manufacturing processes and process knowledge of high-production volume modules including FMEA/FTA
