Position Overview:

Adeia is seeking a highly qualified R&D professional for its Chief Technology Office as Advanced R&D Director. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished technical expert who is known/respected in the industry for his/her accomplishments. This is a visible role, and the selected candidate will be hardworking, high energy, act with a sense of urgency, and have a can-do attitude. The Advanced R&D Director will be interfacing with high-pedigree technical/business stakeholders not only within Adeia but also outside of the company. Responsibilities:

  • Contribute/Participate in periodic Business Technology Strategy and Roadmap Planning
  • Innovation Scouting & Forecasting
  • Personally contribute significantly to Internal Innovation aligned with the Technology Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and Structure Advanced R&D Projects
  • Manage/Guide/Execute Innovation projects, measure progress, and pivot if/when necessary
  • Capture, Document, and Articulate Inventions to internal stakeholders
  • Build/Evaluate Prototypes of Inventions created via Advanced R&D Projects and demonstrate them to customers/licensees
  • Assist in M&A Technical Due Diligence tasks as a technical expert
  • Keep the pulse of the Technology Industry and significant players within the Ecosystem in terms of their R&D, Development, Technical Strategy, Venture Investments
  • Evangelize Vision/Innovations/Demos that came out of the R&D Projects on behalf of the company in front of external technical audiences
  • Establish External Innovation partnerships with Research labs, External companies/startups, Universities, and overall technology ecosystem


Qualifications :

  • MSc in CS/EE from a reputable University
  • PhD is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 8-12 years of Industry experience within a R&D Organization
  • Holder of many granted patents
  • Track record of several Papers, Publications, Presentations
  • Past technology standards and/or consortium participation are preferred
  • Past experience managing Advanced R&D Projects and/or highly technical talent
  • Strong expertise in at least two or more of the following fields: Core Video Streaming Protocols, 360/4K/8K, Video Coding/Compression, Immersive Media Production, Image Processing, Natural Language Processing, Content Delivery Networking, Augmented/Virtual or Mixed Reality, 4G/5G Cellular, Imaging/Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Volumetric Video, Light Field Technology, OTT Advertising, Edge Computing, [Cloud] Gaming [Engines], Display/Optics, Gesture Recognition, 3D Human-Computer Interfaces, 3D Virtual Collaboration, 3D Gaming Engines, Computer Graphics, Video Quality Assessment, Neural Networking, Neuromorphic Computing, Media Personalization
  • Deep familiarity with video streaming protocols, encoding, and decoding toolsets both from client and server-side perspectives.
  • Experience with Software Development on iOS & Android platforms involving video workflow pipelines
  • Deep familiarity with the Unity game engine, including development for mobile and web
  • Experience developing for AR/VR hardware and relevant APIs (e.g., SteamVR, MRTK, OpenXR)
  • Strong communication skills, especially in writing
  • Up to 10% travel is required


The base compensation range for this position is $230,000-253,000.


Location:

Bay Area candidates have the flexibility to go into the office on Tuesdays and other days, as necessary. Travel is estimated to be ~10%.
