Sinn Studio Inc. is leading the charge in XR combat games! Our debut game, Swordsman, is a physics-based combat game where you can slash your way through medieval earth to become the ultimate Swordsman. Having won multiple and been nominated for awards like Game of the Year in 2022, Best Swordfighting Game in 2020 and more. Swordsman also boasts top best seller in Quest and PSVR/2 platforms.

We’re looking for a Game Designer (Mixed Reality) with experience in general systems design and combat to join our team and solve novel problems in a complex, but rewarding genre of XR combat. The successful candidate will collaborate with artists, programmers, and AI engineers to produce next-generation XR/MR combat technologies in new, genre-defining projects that set the gold standard for the medium. We are looking for someone who will enrich us through your vantage point and skillset, all in a space where you can thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Design engaging game mechanics, systems, and features (ie. progression, loot, quests, levels, monetization) with a focus on combat and player interactions in MR/XR environments.
  • Take on various design roles/focuses to create game systems
  • Research design methods and ideas to support game system production as necessary
  • Collaborate with directors and designers to invent, innovate, and design the next generation of XR/MR combat technologies
  • Work with producers and team leads to meet goals within scope, budget, and other constraints of each project and initiative
  • Help guide the creative vision throughout the game’s lifecycle, aligning with artistic and studio goals
  • Innovate and refine design concepts to deliver immersive and impactful gameplay experiences
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive design documents, including game designs, gameplay rules, and balancing parameters
  • Develop wireframes, flowcharts, and prototypes to clearly convey design ideas and systems
  • Collaborate closely with artists, programmers, and other colleagues to seamlessly integrate new features and ensure high-quality execution
  • Analyze player feedback and game metrics to iteratively enhance design elements, optimizing gameplay, retention, engagement, and monetization strategies
  • Monitor game health and collaborate with the team to make informed and strategic design decisions
  • Continuously refine game design to improve player experience, adapting to emerging trends and feedback
  • Provide guidance and mentorship, fostering a collaborative and creative team environment
  • Help lead design initiatives, set clear goals, and ensure they are met efficiently
  • Develop strategies for live operations, including events, updates, and content balancing
  • Monitor and engage with community feedback and player behavior to address issues promptly and ensure a positive experience
  • Collaborate across disciplines to enhance player experience and ensure seamless integration of gameplay elements with the overall game narrative
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • 2-8+ years of experience in video game design with proven experience spearheading design features/elements (dependant on intermediate or senior levelling)
  • Deep understanding of game mechanics, player psychology, and immersive design principles
  • Proficiency with with Unreal Engine and exposure to Blueprints
  • A passion for working within mixed reality (MR)
  • Collaborative and skilled in communication and active listening
  • Experience working with tight deadlines and multiple competing priorities
  • Passionate about developing your skills as you continue to grow
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using metrics to refine and optimize game features
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and with communities/players
  • Results oriented with excellent time management skills
  • Organized and adept at planning
  • Curious personality to be able to problem solve
  • Comfortable being in a virtual environment for varying times wearing a VR headset

Added Advantages

  • Experience and background with VR / MR / XR
  • PC and console experience preferred over mobile
  • Experience with technical design, such as scripting
  • Passionate about games and working in the industry
  • Education in Game Design, Interactive Media, related field or equivalent experience

Additional Information

Salary Range: $70,000-110,000 CAD annually + 3 weeks vacation, sick days, employer paid benefits (except LTD), Employee Assistance Program, wellness days, birthday day off, a Group Retirement Savings Plan (GRSP), and more. As of the time of this posting, Sinn Studio lists the projected base salary range in good faith.

Office Location: Liberty Village, Toronto

Work Structure: Preference will be given to local candidates or those who are willing to relocate to the Greater Toronto Area to work in a hybrid model with two days in office collaborating with local team members and our founders.
