Job Description:
Research Scientist, Quantified Wearability
As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will be at the forefront of developing next-generation smart and AR glasses and wearables. Your work will center on providing statistical analysis and support for ongoing projects involving 3D scan data and human factors. This role requires a blend of data analytics, statistical expertise, and human-centered design and problem-solving skills to help shape the future of wearable technology.
You will be tasked with performing in-depth statistical analyses, writing reusable code, and creating visualizations to communicate insights. Your work will support the development of ergonomic, human-centered wearable products by analyzing large datasets and producing actionable insights that influence product design and functionality. Strong storytelling abilities will be crucial as you effectively convey complex findings to stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze data derived from 3D scanned geometry (i.e. PCA on meshes, statistical shape modeling, landmark analysis) and human factors data to produce meaningful insights that drive product design.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, identify issues in the data, and generate and test hypotheses to interpret the results of product experiments.
- Plan and execute statistical analyses for large datasets (N=3000+ people), focusing on wearability and fitment, use large data infrastructure (SQL/NoSQL)
- Develop reusable analysis code in Python, R, or similar languages
- Improve data analysis analysis pipelines with an emphasis on scalability and stability of various deployed systems
- Design and run ergonomic and human factors research studies, utilizing methods such as experimental design, survey analysis, motion tracking, and kinematics analysis.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to translate research questions into analysis tools and results.
- Provide data visualization support, including dashboards and ad-hoc requests, to convey complex information to stakeholders effectively through compelling storytelling
- Participate in cross-functional collaborations, contributing to experiments, prototypes, and concepts that advance AR/VR systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have coding experience
- Must have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Human Factors, or a related field.
- Must have 2+ years of experience in conducting research and statistical analysis for Client products.
- Experience with Python and/or R
- Demonstrated ability to perform multivariate analysis (e.g., PCA on meshes, hierarchical regression modeling, machine learning) with a strong emphasis on deriving data insights from large datasets, identifying trends, and clearly presenting findings
- Experience in 3D geometry analysis, human data, and user studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development related to 3D geometry analysis, particularly in wearable design.
- Prior experience with computer vision, motion capture data analysis, 3D geometry (mesh processing, statistical shape modeling), FEA, and/or CAD
- Experience with Machine Learning models, deep learning frameworks, including PyTorch, and their application in 3D geometry analysis.
- Experience with large database infrastructures (SQL/NoSQL)
- Experience with emerging technologies in AR/VR/MR or wearable technology.
