Location: Onsite – NYC

Hours: Full time – EST

The role

We are seeking qualified candidates to join our RF network deployment team in support of wireless drone racing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF engineering with hands-on experience in using, testing, and optimizing wireless communication systems, with preference for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and their associated ground stations. Candidates will have a minimum of 2 years hands on deployment experience of wireless networks.

What You’ll Do

  • Installation and commissioning of race network equipment for drone telemetry and video at racing venues.
  • Testing and qualification of new and existing ground station equipment, antennas and cables.
  • Design and Develop field tool kits specialized for field operations of DRL’s drone technology stack.
  • Fault diagnosis of new and existing RF equipment
  • Perform sports arena scale field tests to evaluate RF system performance in real-world scenarios, including range, interference, and signal integrity assessments.
  • Document installation, test and inspection results.
  • Repair and test radio transmitting and receiving equipment in accordance with diagrams and manufacturer's specifications, using electrical measuring instruments, wiring diagrams, and hand tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to integrate RF systems into drone and ground station platforms.
  • Upgrade software/firmware and program radios on the system as required.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel up to 15% of the time (required for our racing events)
  • The event environment is physically demanding and you need to perform tasks safely and efficiently in remote and challenging locations.
  • The position requires the use of tools including, power tools, crimpers, soldering, hand tools, etc.
  • Ability to climb ladders, walk long distances and stair cases in stadiums.
  • Occasional lifting of 50lbs of equipment and moving of equipment cases for events.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2 Years experience in Telecom equipment, cellular equipment or similar projects.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on RF/microwave engineering.
  • Some understanding of basic architecture of antenna systems, PDUs, and electronics
  • You are a factual detail-oriented person
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver concise, understandable reports and instructions
  • Ability to work on laptop with MS Office, Google suite or similar tools
  • Ability to read schematics and deploy custom antenna solutions with engineering instructions.
  • Experience with implementation and testing of sub-system modules such as WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth (4.0 and higher), GPS/GNSS and Cellular IoT.
  • Ability to travel and work in different states, countries for week long periods to support races
  • Valid driver's license

We’ll be extra pumped if you have

  • FPV drone pilot skills
  • Part 107 certification, AMA membership
  • OSHA Scissor Lift certification
  • Previous experience in wireless networking systems

Base Salary Range: $75,000 USD - $105,000 USD

Base pay will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, certifications, experience, market demands, and locations.
