DRL is the world’s premier, professional drone racing property for elite pilots. With custom built racing drones traveling 90 MPH, pilots race through the most insane courses across virtual and physical competitions. Hours: Full time – EST
The role
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join the DRL Hardware Engineering team of innovative drone designers. This individual will create and design drones as well as methods, systems, and processes to optimize the department’s ability to assemble, deploy, and deliver technology solutions at global DRL events. The most successful candidate will be a passionate engineer with a technical mind who has a strong electronics background, as well as experience in supply chain, fabrication, and deployable technical systems.
What You’ll Do
- Utilize your extensive knowledge and understanding of a broad range of technologies related to power, processors, analog, to quickly develop solutions to problems as they arise and drive architectures in development of new equipment
- Work on design of new drone technologies and sustaining engineering for existing variants
- Travel to event locations for site visits, planning meetings, and on-site execution as required (up to 15% travel per year is required)
- Work together with mechanical, firmware, and software engineers to bring the solutions to live
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)
- 2 to 5 years of experience in electrical engineering and design
- Proficiency with Altium Designer
- Experience with complex hardware systems (from concept to release to retirement)
- Knowledge and understanding of a broad range of technologies related to power, processors, analog
- Proficiency in schematic capture, and board layout best practices
- Ability to drive and review board layout
- Experience with design of power supplies of common topologies including isolated
- Excellent troubleshooting and debug skills of complex design issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Creative thinking with the ability to design systems and processes from the ground up
- Great collaboration skills
We’ll be extra pumped if you have
- Experience with communication systems for embedded hardware
- Experience with interfaces such as video (analog and digital)
- Experience with Analog and video format conversion
- Experience with implementation and testing of following sub-system modules: WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth (4.0 and higher), GPS/GNSS and Cellular IoT
- Experience with qualification testing including thermal, EMI, and shock/vibration
- Familiarity with best design practices of equipment for rugged environments
- Functional knowledge of software, hardware, and firmware development
Base Salary Range: $75,000 USD - $95,000 USD
Base pay will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, certifications, experience, market demands, and locations.
