Job Description

The Creative Director at The Mill Experience Team will lead the creative vision and creative execution of immersive experiences, including VR, AR, XR, location-based experiences, and real-time immersive experiences for a diverse portfolio of clients and brands. This individual will steer the creative direction for each project from concept to completion, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge, compelling experiences. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, driving innovation across multiple platforms and mediums to create unforgettable, transformative experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead creative vision and execution for immersive and interactive projects (VR, AR, XR, real-time, location-based) for global brands and clients.
  • Oversee the development of compelling narratives and immersive experiences across multiple mediums, working with writers, designers, and technical teams to deliver cohesive experiences.
  • Collaborate closely with the production, technical, and design teams to ensure the creative vision is achieved across all touchpoints.
  • Responsible for ideation, concept development, and the creation of immersive story-driven experiences tailored to the client’s brand and goals.
  • Serve as the primary creative point of contact for clients, nurturing relationships and aligning creative outputs with client expectations.
  • Ensure project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met, working closely with producers and project managers to balance creative ambition with production realities.
  • Present creative concepts and strategies to both internal teams and external clients, articulating ideas clearly and inspiring confidence in the proposed direction.
  • Spearhead pitches, leading a team in crafting beautifully designed proposals which follow the client’s objectives, but push the envelope in creative execution and innovation.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions with internal and external teams
  • Keep a cool head and positive attitude when changes and conflict arise and continue to support the client and the team, striking the perfect balance between ambition and facilitation
  • Clearly explain your rationale, based on business needs, innovation and clever design, for creative choices both internally to our project teams and externally to clients.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback ensuring that the creative vision is still on track

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in creative leadership roles within immersive and interactive experiences, digital media, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in leading projects across various immersive mediums such as VR, AR, XR, real-time installations, and interactive location-based experiences.
  • Strong understanding of narrative design and the intersection of storytelling with technology in immersive environments.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a knack for managing client relationships and leading cross-disciplinary teams.
  • A track record of successful collaboration with technical, creative, and production teams to deliver innovative, high-quality experiences.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on creativity, innovation, and team leadership.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with emerging technologies and real-time engines to push the boundaries of immersive experiences.
  • Strong knowledge of design principles, spatial storytelling, and experience with large-scale interactive installations.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation in immersive experiences and a drive to constantly push creative boundaries.

Additional Information

The pay range for this freelance contract is $900- $1100 USD / day, which is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and pursuant to the California Pay and New York Transparency Law.
