These technologies include speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, and augmented/virtual reality. Analyzes use cases related to multimedia technologies and performs functional decomposition to drive requirements for implementation into hardware or software. Performs system analysis and uses simulation modeling to propose algorithmic or system modifications that enable optimization of performance and power.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Works in the lab, can use hazardous chemicals (e.g., glue, machinery).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working in one or more multimedia technology areas (i.e., speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, augmented/virtual reality).

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Designs systems-level software and hardware to design multimedia functionality under some supervision; identifies power constraints and potential tradeoffs and makes recommendations to resolve issues and produce innovation solutions.
  • Contributes to discussion of design reviews for subsystem development; defines design constraints for a specific project; identifies solutions to meet design targets.
  • Collaborates with peers to design products that meet internal and/or external customer requirements and standards.
  • Develops test environment and test cases to verify the design of a well-defined component; works with peers to evaluate the impact of results and validate software and hardware against specifications; helps to define the test plan to collect data on accuracy, reliability, performance, power, and robustness of design; organizes and plots the data to draw conclusions and present findings.
  • Uses appropriate tools to conduct common analyses of software or hardware design.
  • Programs an aspect of a chip (i.e., feature) under some supervision; creates new and tailors existing algorithms according to a framework.
  • Completes complex tasks and solves issues related to the engineering and management of machine learning data with minimal guidance from more experienced engineers.
  • Develops or adapts complex machine learning algorithms, models, or frameworks aligned with product proposals or roadmaps with minimal guidance from more experienced engineers.
  • Conducts complex experiments to train and evaluate machine learning models independently.
  • Contributes to technical conversations and documentation (e.g., white papers, schematics, FDD, HLDR); escalates complex technical issues to an appropriate contact (e.g., project lead, colleagues).

Level Of Responsibility

  • Working under some supervision.
  • Providing some supervision/guidance to others.
  • Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have relatively minor financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.
  • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. May require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
  • Working within prescribed budget and resources.
  • Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
  • Completing most tasks with multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
  • Exercising substantial creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
  • Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.
  • May be solicited during strategic planning period.
