Unity Sound Engineer (remote)


Nerd Ninjas is a fully remote, fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team of creative professionals that work hard and play hard. We’re working on fun and interesting projects across VR, AR, mobile, and desktop. 


We seek an experienced Sound Engineer to play a crucial role in the audio implementation of our upcoming VR title. In this role, you will work closely with the development team to integrate audio assets, optimize performance, and ensure seamless audio playback within our VR environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the gaming industry and contribute to the success of an exciting, cutting-edge project in VR.


Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure audio infrastructure within Unity, including audio mixers, DSP effects, and spatialization plugins.
  • Ensure accurate spatialization and attenuation of audio sources based on player position and interactions.
  • Develop audio systems that respond dynamically to player actions and environmental cues.
  • Implement audio triggers, events, and scripting to synchronize sound effects with in-game events and animations.
  • Optimize audio assets and processing to achieve optimal performance in VR.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve audio-related issues.
  • Interface with all teammates to ensure consistency of vision & branding.
  • Be willing and able to contribute to a variety of other Unity engineering needs in-between audio engineering tasks.


Requirements

  • 4+ years of audio implementation experience shipping successful titles.
  • Strong understanding of Unity’s audio system and experience implementing audio in Unity projects.
  • Knowledge of spatial audio techniques for interactive audio design.
  • Experience with audio optimization techniques for VR.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully work remotely and be available during core team hours, M-F: 9:00am - 5pm Pacific Time.
  • A passion for games.
  • Must be a US resident.

  • Experience with Unity’s Entity Component System (ECS).

  • Proficient knowledge of Git.
